The lithium-ion battery (LIB) is expected to dominate the supply of rechargeable Electric Vehicle batteries in the near future.

The smallest component of the lithium-ion battery is the electrochemical cell consisting of:

• an anode (graphite)
• a cathode (a combination of different materials)
• An electrolyte (lithium) which connects the anode and cathode.
