RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Samsung Electronics America, Inc., and Samsung Austin Semiconductor, LLC., announced today Samsung’s No. 7 ranking on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) National Top 100 List of the largest green power users from the Green Power Partnership (GPP) – a rise from Samsung’s previous position at No. 59. Samsung also ranks No. 6 on the GPP’s Top 30 Tech & Telecom list – an increase from Samsung’s previous position at No. 12. The improvement in rankings reflects the company’s effort to transition towards renewable energy and its commitment to sustainability.

To date, Samsung has used nearly 1.2 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power in 2018, which represents approximately 90 percent of the total power needs of Samsung Electronics America, Inc., and Samsung Austin Semiconductor, LLC. Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Austin Semiconductor, LLC plan to source renewable energy to meet 100 percent energy use in 2018. By moving the needle in the voluntary green power market, Samsung contributes to the advancement of the market for green power as well as the development of those sources.

“Samsung thrives when our communities thrive and our commitment to environmental stewardship is a critical part of creating shared success,” said John Godfrey, Senior Vice President, Public Policy, Samsung Electronics America. “We are honored to receive this recognition and it is a testament to the progress we are making towards our ultimate goal of sourcing renewable energy for 100% of the energy used in our American facilities by 2020.”

“This list of the largest users of green power across the nation is proof that good business practices can also benefit the environment,” said James Critchfield, Program Manager of EPA’s Green Power Partnership. “EPA applauds the leading organizations in the Green Power Partnership’s Top Partner Rankings for their notable commitment to expanding their use of green power and protecting the environment.”

Samsung’s rise on these lists is the result of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.’s larger commitment to build on progress in energy efficiency and operational emissions reductions and to expand the use of renewable energy in its operations around the world. In June, Samsung announced plans to source renewable energy for 100 percent of the energy used for all its factories, office buildings, and operational facilities in the United States, Europe and China by 2020 and to seek to further increase its use of renewable energy around the world.

Samsung’s sustainability efforts include driving improvements across all areas of business. For more information on Samsung’s sustainability efforts, please visit: https://www.samsung.com/us/aboutsamsung/sustainability/strategy/ and https://www.samsung.com/us/sas/Sustainability/Approach.
