As inspection body and engineering company, SEAC is helping its clients meet the regulatory inspection and approval requirements for their electrical and fuel-burning equipment.
We always ensure fast execution of projects with high quality deliverables including inspection report, inspection label, and rating plate. We are typically able to schedule the inspections on a very short notice and to provide the inspection reports after a day or two following the inspections. With full in-house design and drafting capabilities, we can also provide our clients with standard piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and electrical wiring diagrams if they do not have the drawings required for compliance to the applicable codes and standards.
B149.3 Inspections of Fuel-Burning Equipment
In various provinces and territories within Canada, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) have adopted the CSA B149.3 Code as a regulatory requirement for the approval of fuel-burning appliances and equipment.
Field Approval refers to the inspection at the appliance installation site. The deliverables for this type of service include inspection report, inspection label, rating plate, and P&IDs and electrical wiring diagrams.
Pre-assessment is a type of inspection performed to evaluate the appliance compliance to the relevant Codes. The assessment is not required to be at the appliance installation site. The only deliverable in this case is the inspection report. After Pre-assessment, the client may proceed with the Field Approval to comply with the regulatory requirements.
SPE-1000 Inspections of Electrical Equipment
The Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) accept the requirements of CSA SPE-1000 Model Code for the approval of electrical appliances and equipment. If an appliance cannot be approved or certified because certification is impractical or otherwise unavailable, it can be approved as per the requirements of CSA SPE-1000 Model Code, the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC Part I), and appliance or product specific standards. When used along with the requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC Part I), this model code addresses the minimum requirements of electrical safety for the equipment.
Field Approval for electrical equipment can be conducted at the installation site, the manufacturer’s facility or elsewhere. The deliverables for this type of service include inspection report and inspection label.
Pre-assessment inspections for electrical equipment are also conducted to evaluate the appliance compliance to the relevant Codes. The only deliverable in this case is the inspection report. After Pre-assessment, the client may proceed with the Field Approval to comply with the regulatory requirements.
