Ameresco is acquiring a Massachusetts solar energy management firm to expand its services to owners of commercial-scale photovoltaic facilities.

As part of its acquisition of Maximum Solar, Ameresco said, it will further develop in-house services to operate and maintain solar facilities. Maximum Solar currently manages about 150 MW of solar throughout the northeastern U.S.

“A well-designed and properly executed maintenance program can be a crucial element to long-term energy system performance and production,” said Pete Christakis, Vice President Construction & Operations of Ameresco.

Framingham, Mass.-based Ameresco has performed services on renewable energy projects since not long after its founding in 2000. The company has done solar work in numerous states, including Tennessee, Maryland and Hawaii, as well as energy efficiency projects in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom.

Maximum Solar’s clients range from large utilities to owners of single, 100 kW systems. Services include complete O&M contracts, remote monitoring, facility reporting, electrical testing, inspections, trouble-shooting and repair, shading analysis, aerial and ground based thermal imaging, preventative maintenance and complete site maintenance.

No financial details were given on the transaction. Ameresco acquired California-based solar developer TerraNavigator LLC in November and Hawaiian building-science consultant Chelsea Group Ltd two months earlier.
