(Reuters) – Cheniere Energy reported a rise in second-quarter profit on Thursday, helped by increased demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG), sending its shares up 2% in premarket trading.
The U.S. is the world’s largest exporter of LNG, shipping 15 billion cubic feet per day (bcfpd) of the supercooled fuel in 2025, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, up 26% from 2024.
Commercial activity in the LNG sector has gained further momentum after U.S. President Donald Trump lifted a moratorium on new LNG export permits after taking office last year.
The company’s LNG revenue was at $5.64 billion in the quarter, compared with $4.52 billion a year earlier, while regasification revenues remained flat at $34 million.
The Houston, Texas-based company posted a net income of $3.07 billion for the quarter ended June 30, compared with $1.63 billion in the previous year.
