Sucker rods are designed to be kept in tension. If rods are in compression, the metal is more susceptible to corrosion and rods will bend due to the weight of the rods piled above. Bending fatigue failures account for a significant percent of all sucker rod mechanical failures. Any degree of bending will cause an increase in load stress at the bend point which eventually will cause the rod to fail resulting in a fishing job costing you more.
