As we wrap up another exciting year at Energy Workforce and ring in 2023, our Board of Directors, Advisory Board and I would like to thank you for your continued support, engagement and commitment to the Association as we work to educate others about the secure, reliable and affordable energy that our sector provides for our nation and the world. Members inspire us every day, and we are here to assist you in managing the challenges facing the industry.

ELEVATING THE SECTOR: ADVOCACY
Energy Workforce is dedicated to advocating on your behalf, and we have built outreach, engagement, communications and public affairs teams to support that effort. It is paramount to the industry’s success to communicate with stakeholders, especially government leaders, on the value of the work you do, the innovation and ingenuity of our Member Companies, and how our industry supports national and economic security.

The 2022 Washington, DC Fly-In was a great success, including discussions with more than 40 members of Congress and senior administration officials. The 2023 Washington, DC Fly-In planning is well underway. Energy Workforce will host Members February 7-9 for meetings on Capitol Hill and with the Administration to discuss the vital work of our sector. If you have not already done so, sign up for the trip here. Your participation is extremely valuable as we deliver our message to Congress and the Administration.

Additionally, this past year, the government affairs team held more than 100 meetings with Members of Congress, hosted nine events for local officials, and hosted Congressman-elect Wesley Hunt of Texas for a tour of member company locations in the Permian Basin. Tim Tarpley, SVP Government Affairs, also held an individual meeting with Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk.

Energy Workforce provided important testimony on issues affecting the industry. I testified before a joint Congressional Western Caucus and House Committee on Oversight and Reform hearing. Tim Tarpley testified before the House Natural Resources Committee Republican Forum, and at the state level, he provided testimony for the Texas Council on Environmental Quality on orphaned wells in Texas.

The communications team increased media outreach by 25% over last year. In 2022, Energy Workforce had almost one billion media impressions, through 139 placements, worth more than $8.8 million in earned media. Major media hits included Politico, Bloomberg, CNBC, FOX News, Reuters, Forbes, Financial Times, The Hill, Axios, Cheddar, Houston Chronicle and many more.

Our social media engagement also continued to grow, with a 35% increase in followers and almost one billion impressions across Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Additionally, audience reactions and engagements more than doubled. We invite you to engage with us on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.

ELEVATING THE SECTOR: REGULATORY AFFAIRS
On the regulatory front, Energy Workforce worked with federal agencies on proposed regulations and Member-guided working groups developed official comments for proposed rules, including the SEC ESG reporting proposal, EPA’s methane regulations, NEPA changes, the Inflation Reduction Act tax credits for new energy technologies and the Greenhouse Gas Fund.

The advocacy team has also developed working groups to prepare comments on several proposed rules that are due in early 2023, including the latest EPA methane supplemental rule and ESG reporting requirements on government contracts. We will also file official comments on an Interior Department methane rule.

ELEVATING THE SECTOR: BEST PRACTICES
Additionally, we are working through committees to produce best practices documents and develop industry standards on emissions for Member Company operations.

The Well Servicing Committee has engaged with OSHA regarding a proposed Base Beam hazard alert, is creating a training program for well control, finalizing updates to the Well Servicing Best Practices document, preparing a Well Servicing Rig Count publication, and produced a white paper on orphaned well best practices.

The Well Stimulation Services Committee is targeting advocacy on issues specific to hydraulic fracturing and pressure pumping, evaluating and recommending actions on regulatory challenges, and finalizing its best practices document on proper use of natural gas in the field. This document will be one of the first industry best practice documents specifically for well stimulation.

The Energy Technology Committee led Inflation Reduction Act engagement efforts, which included direct comments to relevant agencies on implementation, membership education on opportunities and challenges for the energy industry. The committee is leading Energy Workforce’s efforts to respond to the anticipated SEC proposed Rule on Climate Disclosures and preparing membership for its release by sharing best practices.

HSEESG and Energy Technology Committees created an Emissions Working Group to compile sector-led best practices around reporting for on-site GHG emissions, which will continue to meet into next year.

EMPOWERING THE WORKFORCE
Developing, retaining and recruiting energy workers for today and the future is a top priority for Energy Workforce and is paramount for the success of our sector. This year, we launched field and operations training programs, in addition to the existing year-long executive coaching, ESG and Inclusive Leader courses. Energy Workforce tripled its number of participants in these programs over 2021 and registration is open for the 2023 courses.

We continue to invest in the industry’s future through the National Scholarship program for Member Company employees and their dependents. For the 2022-2023 school year, Energy Workforce awarded $39,000 to 39 students. The 2023-2024 program will begin accepting applications mid-January.

EMPOWERING THE WORKFORCE: DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL CHAPTERS
In addition to being key drivers for raising regional scholarship program funds, the Energy Workforce regional chapters held numerous networking events and functions, where Members gathered to build strategic relationships with local stakeholders and heard from operator executives and analysts.

The international chapters are essential for Members who work and live throughout Latin America and the Middle East. Recently, the Middle East Chapter held multiple meetings and events on the sidelines of ADIPEC, garnering critical discussions around workforce and reducing carbon intensity to support regional energy priorities.

EMPOWERING THE WORKFORCE: CULTURE
Energy Workforce continues to promote building cultures that will attract the talent needed for growing energy demand. The Human Resources Committee teamed up with PwC for a series of webinars on the labor market. Members discussed a variety of issues during the series, including compensation, attracting and retaining talent, managing a hybrid workforce and the employee experience.

The Engagement Committee released an updated DEI toolkit for Members with tools for middle management and operations, which is continually updated, providing Members with the latest intelligence on recruiting, retaining and managing a diverse and inclusive workforce.

EMPOWERING THE WORKFORCE: NETWORKING
Energy Workforce knows networking with industry partners is valuable to our Members. We continue to bring in key customer executives to share their plans and discuss how they would like to collaborate with the sector. Additionally, COO Molly Determan and I represented the sector and Member Companies at various E&P forums, discussing the challenges suppliers are facing and how we can partner to address these issues and ensure project success.

TELLING OUR STORY
I am proud of the work our Members do to ensure reliable, affordable energy is accessible to our fellow Americans and to consumers around the world. Without your work, innovation and dedication, many more people would live in energy poverty, we would pay higher prices, and our energy security would be further jeopardized.
