Wind Power from New Heights: An Airbone Turbine

Kite surfers inspired the Makani Airborne Wind Turbine, a rigid wing with the same design as a kite. It flies at altitudes up to almost 3,000 feet, tracing the same patterns as traditional wind turbines, and using propellers to generate electricity. The power is sent to the grid through a tether to the ground.
